Connor Opperman (age 11) recently received his Chess SA colours and was selected to represent South Africa at the 2021 African Schools Individual Chess Championship which was held in Nairobi, Kenya. The tournament took place over the course of a week (13th – 19th of December) with players playing two games per day, along with a rest day in-between.

More than 250 players from 9 different countries across Africa competed against each other in their respective age groups. Connor competed in the U/11 Open section, which consisted out of 17 players. After a total of 9 rounds against some very tough competition, Connor scored a total of 6/9 games and finished 4th in his age group. Well done Connor on this outstanding achievement. We are all very proud of you for representing both the Hermanus Chess Club aswell as South Africa on the international stage.
